August 24, 2006 BMX show number one
The first we saw of the BMX guys was them setting up the stage (exciting is it not?)! So most of them were walking around with pieces of wood or screwdrivers in their hands! Recognising some of the guys from last year was really fun, even though we knew the other's names well enough by the time we actually made it to the show. The excitement was just welling up inside of us as we waited for the show to start. We took quite a few pictures before the show and while they were practicing. But mostly we just laughed and waited in tense anticipation. I got up to see the other side of the tent (making sure that we had the best view of Keith because last year Joanie couldn't see him very well from where she sat) and found that there was no outbranch for Keith to do his tricks on so we were content with the seats we were on. After a while I went behind the ramp again and as I was walking back to my seat I looked up at the ramp for a moment and as I was turning my gaze back to the floor I saw that Brian Wainwright had just looked down at me. I smiled to myself as I walked away. I sat back down laughing and watching the guys as they practiced.
Jeremy Fanberg did something that was very unsuspected. He took a great big jump and fell over the edge of the ramp! His bike balanced for one horrifying moment before it plunged after him. The small crowd that had already gathered in the tent sent out whispers of 'ow', 'oh', 'dang it, I hope he's not hurt!', 'did that bike just fall on him?!' and 'that'll knock the wind out of him'. Brian peered over the edge to make sure that Jeremy was okay and then began inspecting the broken ledge of the ramp. All must have been pretty well because after about ten seconds Jeremy showed up on the opposite side from us with his arms out and his lips moving as if to say "Where's my bike?!" (we couldn't hear him from where we sat though) to Keith. Eventually Jeremy found that it had slid under the ramp (why would it want to do that?) and reclaimed the prized, and undamaged bike (we know that it was okay because he tested it on the ramps and made the breaks squeal).
After a little bit more practice the show began, first with the checking of the microphone with a "hi, hi, hi, check" from Keith and a great big "Hi" from Joanie. First Keith said to the crowd "is there anyone here who attended our show last year?" to which we answered with a torrent of screams and claps that were loud enough to give full attention to ourselves (there was no one else who really screamed that loud either). Keith smiled, pointed at us and then said "these girls know what to do, you should follow their example and be as loud as possible.". You can imagine how excited we were at being pointed out!Keith introduced the show by telling us that he was going to start the show with an introduction (what's with that?LOL). He introduced the guys one by one telling their favorite tricks to do and telling of Mike as a video game character. We cheered very loudly at every name that was mentioned. As the show progressed we got louder and louder. Keith pointed us out a second time during the show. By the end our voices were quite hoarse from screaming. We waited for the crowd to clear from the signing table before we walked over to talk to them and get autographs.
Once the rest of the fans cleared away from Keith we walked over. Keith mentioned that he recognized Jenna from myspace, and that he was going to mention it. Jenna produced her brag book that we had made of the guys, for the guys to sign, asking Keith to sign it. (if you would like to see it click
here.) Keith didn't notice anything different from any other thing that people ask to get signed at first, but when he saw what Jenna was holding out to him he tapped Josh on the shoulder with his sharpie to get his attention and said "Oh, my gosh!". Josh looked over and got completely excited. The rest of the guys wondered what those two were getting so excited about. Keith had to look at all of the pages and comment on them before signing it.
When he passed it to Josh, Josh got excited seeing his page, traced the stars and then whipped out his camera phone to take a picture of it. Then he signed it and looked at the rest of the pages. When he saw Jeremy's page he had to stuff it into Jeremy's face although Jeremy couldn't see it with how fast Josh had done it. All the guys had signed it respectively and we had apologized to the others that we didn't have pages for them because we couldn't find pictures.
Joanie decided that since the only thing she had for the guys to sign was her new pink cowboy hat, that's what she asked them to sign (if you'd like to see it click here). Keith asked "where should I sign it?" and Joanie replied "On the brim, what's the use of having a hat with a big brim if you can't get it signed.". As Keith was signing Joanie's hat Joanie said "You're manly enough that you can get away with signing a pink hat.". Keith and Josh both laughed after hearing her say that. When it got to Josh, Joanie took a picture of him signing it (click
here to view it). Jeremy had seen her doing it so when the hat got down to him he posed while signing it (click here to view picture). It's really a great picture!
Then Keith asked Jenna if he could interview her. Of course Jenna got excited and said yes to him. As Keith got the camera and sound stuff ready, Joanie and I spoke with the guys. We shook all of their hands (except Keith's) while Jenna was showing off every page of our autograph book to the camera for Keith. Joanie told Jeremy to squeeze her hand because he said that she had a good grip. He wouldn't of course, so Joanie went on to ask Brian to squeeze her hand. His reply was a simple 'No' and a shake of his head. Jaren shook her hand and then asked "do you live on a farm?". Mike said "man, you do have a good hand shake", but again, he also refused to squeeze. I guess Joanie just has a great handshake.
After Jenna's interview was over Keith gave us pierce clothing company stickers and told us that they hadn't gotten their other stickers in yet.We wanted to get our picture taken with them. I was starting to go ask them but Joanie asked Keith instead. They all got very excited and Keith told us to sit on the edge of the ramp for the picture. His sister Kelli volunteered to take the picture for us so we were ready to go. Jeremy Fanberg lounged on Jenna and I for the picture (seriously) and the rest of them stood behind us. Brian wanted her to just keep taking pictures, he must have thought that it was really cool to be getting his picture taken with fans. When Kelli had taken four pictures (view either
here, here, here,or here) the time had come for us to part (*sniffle*). So we left the BMX tent after saying thank you and goodbye to the guys!
